Book Excerpts

Statement of the Basic Facts of "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace Wattles

"There is a thinking substance from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imagined by the thought.

A person can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

In order to do this, a person must pass from the competitive to the creative mind. He must form a clear mental image of the things he wants. And, he must hold this picture in his thoughts with the fixed purpose to get what he wants and the unwavering faith that he will get what he wants--closing his mind against all that may tend to shake his purpose, dim his vision, or quench his faith. He must do with faith and purpose all that can be done each day--doing each separate thing in an efficient manner. "

Other Quotes

"Every act can be made strong and efficient by holding your vision while you are doing it and by putting the whole power of your faith and purpose into it."

"The grateful mind continually expects good things, and expectation becomes faith. The reaction of gratitude upon one's own mind produces faith."

"The universe is a great living presence, always moving inherently toward more life and fuller functioning. Nature is formed for the advancement of life; its motive is the increase of life... You cannot be kept poor by a shortness in the supply of riches."

Chapter 4 - The First Principle in the Science of Getting Rich
"Thought is the only power which can produce tangible riches from the formless substance...Every form and process you see in nature is the visible expression of a thought in the original substance...The science of getting rich begins with the absolute acceptance of this faith."

Chapter 5 - Increasng Life
"In order to know more, do more, and be more, we must have more...We must get rich so that we can live more."

Chapter 6 - How Riches Come to You
"The original substance wants to live as much as possible in you; it wants you to have all you can or will use for the living of the most abundant life...The desire you feel for riches is the Infinite, seeking to express himself in you...""

Chapter 7 - Gratitude
"The first step toward getting rich is to convey the idea of your wants to the formless substance...in order to do so it becomes necessary to relate yourself to the formless intelligence in a harmonious way...The whole process of mental adjustment and atunement can be summed up in one word: gratitude."

Chapter 8 - Thinking in the Certain Way
"When you try to impress your wishes upon the thinking substance, remember that it must be done by a coherent statement. You must know what you want, and be definite...See just what you want and get a clear mental picture of it as you wish it to look when you get it...Spend as much of your leisure time as you can in contemplating your picture."

Chapter 9 - How to Use the Will
"To get rich, you need only to use your will power on yourself. When you know what to think and do, you must use your will to compel yourself to think and do the right things. That is the legitimate use of the will in getting what you want--to use it in holding yourself to the right course. Use your will to keep yourself thinking and acting in the certain way...Use your mnd tto form a mental image of what you want and to hold your vision with faith and purpose."

Chapter 10 - Further Use of Will
"I repeat: you can aim at nothng so great or noble as to become rich. You must fix your attention upon your mental picture of riches--to the exclusion of all that may tend to dim or obscure your vision."

Chapter 11 - Acting in the Certain Way
"A person must act as well as think...Hold to the one vision of what you want, and act now."

Chapter 12 - Efficent Action
"Do, every day, all that can be done that day...It is really not the number of things that you do, but the efficency of each separate action that counts...every efficient act is a success in itself, and if every act of your life is an efficient one, your whole life must be a success."
